Joachim Heierli is post-doctoral researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He received the diploma degree in physics in 1988 and worked thereafter for several years in the industry, in SME and at Siemens SIBT, at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research EMPA and at the Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF. After taking a position of research associate at the Institute for Materials and Processes of the University of Edinburgh, he earned the doctor’s degree in engineering science of the University of Karlsruhe in 2008. He is author of several refereed publications on snow avalanche formation, one thereof in the magazine Science.
