The Institute for Applied Materials - Reliability of Components and Systems (IAM-ZBS) engages in research and teaching in the area of security and reliability  assessment of component parts.

The IAM-ZBS preferentially uses methods of model building and numerical simulation. It combines atomistic methods with micro structural specifications and continuum mechanical analysis.

We conduct our research work with national cooperations and international partners and with a very tight intermeshing with the Institute fpr Applied Materials - WBM of the research centre Karlsruhe and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Mechanics - IWM.

Within the framework of the Emmy-Noether-Programme of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) the IAM-ZBS hosts the Emmy-Noether young scientists group Dynamics of sliding metal surfaces.
