Reliability of highly loaded components
Dep. Mechanics of Materials 2

Aiming optimal and reliable use of novel materials and material systems in highly loaded components we characterize and model at different scales their mechanical and fracture mechanical behavior under extreme loading conditions, e.g. high temperature and/or high dose irradiation. Based on deep understanding of the deformation and damage mechanisms under complex loading scenarios material data base and models are developed and utilized for nonlinear structure analyses and design rules development.

In addition, we develop and optimize solid state joining and coating technologies for particularly dissimilar materials and qualify them among others by non-destructive testing.
