Introduction to Ceramics

Content

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to ceramic materials, covering chemical bonding, crystal structures, crystal defects, phases, and phase diagrams. Students learn about powder preparation, shaping, and sintering (solid- and liquid-phase), as well as microstructure development and grain growth. The course explores mechanical, electrical, and other functional properties, linking structure and processing to performance. Lectures are complemented by exercises to apply theory to practical problems and design considerations.
