Research

The electrochemical reduction of CO2 with electricity from renewable sources is a promising way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while producing useful chemical energy carriers. Copper electrode materials are of particular interest as they have the unique ability to reduce CO2 to hydrocarbons such as methane, ethane and ethanol. My main focus is on the experimental characterisation of the CO2 Reduction Reaction in organic electrolytes on copper based electrocatalysts. The performed measurements will be used to identify reaction products and to characterise the reaction mechanisms regarding selectivity and efficiency.
