Research

The increasing popularity of electric vehicles has led to increasing use of high energy density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, concerns about their safety have increased. Due to the accelerated degradation of these batteries at elevated temperatures, there is a risk of thermal breakdowns. By studying chemical kinetics and their relationship to the thermochemical properties of the battery components, we can understand the fundamental processes that occur during thermal breakdown in LIBs.

My research focuses on exploring the chemical kinetics of LIBs during thermal stress using gas analysis. A thermochemical-kinetic model is used to link the thermodynamic properties of various chemical compounds in the battery to the chemical kinetics of the governing reactions. In particular, we investigate how these reactions occur during thermal stress.
