Subject and Research area
The mission of the research area of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gorr is focused on the development of innovative materials and the design of components for advanced technologies and energy systems which contribute to a flexible energy production, conversion and storage. Our research and development activities are embedded in the research field Energy by participating in the three Helmholtz programs Materials and Technologies for the Energy Transition (MTET), Nuclear Fusion as well as Nuclear Waste Management and Safety and Radiation Research (NUSAFE). These topics contribute to new energy concepts to achieve the energy transition to a CO2-free and climate friendly world.

Department of Metallic Materials
In close collaboration with strong partners from academia and industry, we develop cutting-edge materials and production processes – from the initial concept to ready-to-use prototypes. Our goal: advanced materials that make energy conversion more sustainable, efficient, and economical
Department Corrosion
The Corrosion department researches the compatibility of industrial processes and materials. To this end, the mechanisms of chemical and thermo-physical interactions with the operating environment are determined and the loss of material quantified. Besides new material concepts for extreme operating conditions, we also develop the testing facilities for simulating the process-specific loads in the laboratory.
High Frequency Materials Group
Our core topic is the characterization and optimization of dielectric materials with a focus on artificial diamond disks. We also develop diamond windows, detectors and antenna systems for microwave heating in the megawatt range in fusion experiments such as Asdex-UG, W-7X, ITER and DEMO.
